First Christian Church of Yucca Valley, Yucca Valley, CA

Position: Family Life Pastor

Contact Name:Mark Thometz

Notified: 2018-06-14

Contact Phone:760-449-1474

Email: yuccamark@gmail.com

Job Description:We are a small church (avg. attendance 80-100) looking to make a big impact. Not just a big impact in our town but a big impact on each individual God connects us with. To do this, we feel God is calling someone here to help reach and engage our families and students. Our Lead Pastor is 28-year-old BBC graduate Mark Thometz who, over the past 5 and a half years, has been mentored by and serving with Myron Wells. Our church is at a sort of crossroads. We are attracting young families while still ministering to our elderly, but Mark does not have the time needed to invest in our families in a way they deserve.

We are looking for a Family Life Pastor. Someone who has a heart for families, teenagers and children. In practical terms, this person would function as a youth minister (leading and organizing youth group and

activities) while also organizing our family ministry (more well-known as children’s church). For the family ministry side, we are looking for someone who can organize teaching schedules, find curriculum and be the go-to person for any needs the teachers may have. Ideally, we would like the parents to be the primary teachers of their children and we need to implement changes to our current program to make that a reality.

I hope this goes without saying but this would be a full-time paid position. We believe God can work something powerful here and maybe you are the one He is leading to help accomplish this vision of a church equipping and empowering families. If you have any further questions please email, call or text Pastor Mark at (760) 449-1474 or yuccamark@gmail.com. Thank you for your time and may God bless you wherever you are.

Job Description: Southern Heights Christian Church is an established church of approximately 325 that has experienced tremendous growth since the hiring of new Sr. Minister Jeff Hinson in 2016. As a result, SHCC is seeking to hire a full-time Children’s Minister to serve the 100+ children that are a part of SHCC on a weekly basis. Jeff has a strong background in Children’s ministry and since his arrival the church leadership has embraced an emphasis on young families. It is fairly common to hear staff, eldership and even volunteers relate that SHCC’s priorities are children, youth and adults... in that order. SHCC embraces a “fail forward” culture that encourages trying new things and embracing an attitude of learning from failures regardless of result.

The Children’s Ministers primary responsibility will be to oversee all aspects of programming for the weekend and midweek services for birth through 5th grade. This includes the coordination of all volunteer systems and processes. In addition, it is expected that the Children’s Minister fosters a love for reaching young families in the community that aren’t currently engaged in SHCC. The person assuming this role will need to understand the development of systems and processes for volunteer coordination, community outreach and discipleship of young families. To perform the duties of this role adequately, it is necessary for candidates to show a history of creativity, strong work ethic, and a willingness to embrace a team ministry concept.

A college degree is preferred but not required for this position. SHCC is offering a very generous salary package that reflects their value of young families and this role within the church.

          OREGON

Singing Hills Christian Church, Hillsboro, Oregon

          Position:Children's Minister

          Notified: 2018-11-26

          Contact Name : Pam McCann

          Email: searchteam@singinghills.org

          Phone Number: 503-648-2822

Job Description: This opportunity is for a full time position with benefits.

The Current Situation: We have a wide range of volunteers currently assisting and leading the ministry work. The Children’s Minister would be stepping in to oversee and assist in the recent restructuring of the Children’s programming and help in providing vision for future growth. There is currently an average attendance of 20 Children of our Sunday morning Kids Discovery and 30 in our Wednesday Kid Club program. We have several active volunteers who serve faithfully.

The Need: We need the applicant to organize and communicate well with people. They should have a good grasp of the various aspects of Children’s programming and be able to assist and teach in a wide range of ages as the need arises. We need someone who can inject excitement and enthusiasm for the children but also understand the importance of communicating to parents. The Children’s Minister will be working closely with the Lead Minister to create a dynamic atmosphere and vision for the future.

These are the areas that would need to be overseen:

          Sunday Morning:

          • Wee Worship (2yrs – 3yrs during our 10:30 am worship service)
            • Volunteers: Checking in weekly with the current volunteers to make sure they have all they need for teaching and lesson planning.
          • Kids Discovery: (4 years – 5th grade during our 10:30 am worship service)
            • Organize and Help Teach: There will be a main worship time that you would be hands on with and most likely leading. Then the kids are transitioned into activity and class time. The responsibilities will be to organize the current volunteers, aid in the teaching as needed and be the point person for communication and direction.

            Wednesday:

            • Kids Club: (4 years – 5th grade mid-week outreach program)
              • Volunteers: The Children’s Minister should get to know what the volunteers need and make sure all the volunteer positions are filled on a weekly basis.
              • Lesson Writing and Organizing service projects: We teach in “blocks” during our Wednesday program because we want to be intentional about outreach and service after a teaching block is finished. (i.e. We teach on a topic for 4-6 weeks then use the following week for application.) This role may include writing some teaching block lessons and organizing the service or outreach project that would coincide with the lesson.

              Annual Events:

              • There are a number of annual events that SHCC kids have done. (ie: Family Sundays, VBS, Night Light, end of the year party, movie nights…etc.) The Children’s Minister would lead and organize the events that have proven fruitful and also have the freedom to make adjustments to allow for new and creative ways to engage our families and community.

              Expectations:

              • Passionate about children growing in their faith and accepting Christ.
              • Genuinely love and enjoy being around children and their families.
              • Have the ability to establish good rapport with parents and make it a goal to invest time with the children by attending their big events and visiting the families as the opportunity arises.
              • Self-Motivated and timely with a team mindedness in their leadership and attend all required meetings.
              • Be able to handle the responsibility of administration including the management of the teacher rotation and fill-ins.
              • To be flexible with ministry needs and people.

              • 2 weeks of paid personal leave
              • 8 paid holidays
