Christian Ministry Program –
Family Ministry Major

Program Objectives

The Family Ministry major is designed to help you accomplish several goals:

  1. You will develop a sound philosophy of family ministry based upon God’s design for the family and the contemporary needs of families in society today;
  2. You will be able to develop and effectively lead family education and training programs;
  3. You will be able to effectively plan, organize, lead, and administrate a family ministry program to meet the needs of families in a church and its community;
  4. You will be able to recruit, train, and motivate the teams of workers needed to run a productive family ministry;
  5. You will develop the ability to work with other church staff, ministry leaders, volunteers, and church members to accomplish the mission and goals of a congregation;
  6. You will be able to integrate God’s desire for family into all aspects of the life and ministry of a church

Description

The Family Ministry major is combined with the General Education core and the Bible major to complete the program requirements of a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. The major is made up of five components:

  1. Christian Ministries Core, a series of courses which give you exposure to a broad range of ministry fields and develop your ministry skills and outlook in a systematic way.
  2. Family Ministry Core, a series of courses designed to teach essential skills for anyone working in the field of family ministry.
  3. Guided Electives, a “menu” of courses, any of which would prove valuable in the field of family ministry, from which you can choose based on your personal goals and interests.
  4. Ministry Electives, an opportunity for you to diversify your curriculum by taking courses in a ministry field other than family ministry or to augment your family ministry degree by taking additional courses in that field.
  5. Internship, an opportunity for you to learn family ministry through practical field experience.
