(Intercultural Studies Major)

Program Objectives

The intercultural studies major is designed to help you accomplish several goals:

  1. You will have the knowledge needed to be guided in cross-cultural ministry by biblical principles and an awareness of past and current missionary strategies.
  2. You will be challenged to exercise the cultural awareness and sensitivity needed to foster indigenous church which reflect local social and cultural preferences.
  3. You will have a grasp of the skills, personal traits, and knowledge needed to serve in a cross-cultural environment that requires entrepreneurial and relational skills.
  4. You will develop communication skills that will help you transcend cultural and language barriers.

Description

The Intercultural Studies major is combined with the General Education core and the Bible major to complete the program requirements of a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. The major is made up of five components:

  1. Christian Ministries Core, a series of courses which give you exposure to a broad range of ministry fields and develop your ministry skills and outlook in a systematic way.
  2. Intercultural Studies Core, a series of courses designed to teach essential skills for anyone working in the field of intercultural ministry.
  3. Guided Electives, a “menu” of courses, any of which would prove valuable in the field of intercultural ministry, from which you can choose based on your personal goals and interests.
  4. Communication Electives, a choice of courses designed to improve your communication skills in any cultural setting.
  5. Internship, an opportunity for you to learn intercultural ministry through practical field experience.
