(Small Group Ministry Major)

Program Objectives

The small group ministry major is designed to help you accomplish several goals:

  1. You will develop a sound philosophy of small group ministry based upon biblical principles and the needs of the Church for Bible study, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and outreach.
  2. You will be able to develop and teach effective small groups lessons with various designed purposes to fulfill the Great Commission.
  3. You will be able to effectively plan, organize, lead, and administrate a small group ministry to meet the needs of youth and adults in a church and its community.
  4. You will be able to recruit, train, and motivate the teams of workers needed to run a productive small group ministry.
  5. You will develop the ability to work with other church staff, ministry leaders, volunteers, and church members to accomplish the mission and goals of a congregation.

Description

The Small Group Ministry major is combined with the General Education core and the Bible major to complete the program requirements of a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. The major is made up of five components:

  1. Christian Ministries Core, a series of courses which give you exposure to a broad range of ministry fields and develop your ministry skills and outlook in a systematic way.
  2. Small Group Ministry Core, a series of courses designed to teach essential skills for anyone working in the field of small groups ministry.
  3. Guided Electives, a “menu” of courses, any of which would prove valuable in the field of small groups ministry, from which you can choose based on your personal goals and interests.
  4. Ministry Electives, an opportunity for you to diversify your curriculum by taking courses in a ministry field other than small groups ministry or to augment your small groups ministry degree by taking additional courses in that field.
  5. Internship, an opportunity for you to learn small groups ministry through practical field experience.
